Shipston Beekeepers – New beekeepers honey extraction session

Our new beekeepers attending the Wednesday evening sessions at Shipston’s training apiary in Brailes have been working hard throughout the season looking after the colonies. Recently the emphasis has been on clearing supers and getting ready to extract honey and putting it into jars ready for sale at the various village shows. And entering it into the honey shows at Brailes and Tysoe.

Given the honey flow and all the extracting that is happening David and Margery Blower arranged for the Wednesday 29th July beginners session to be a practical, hands-on extracting session at their home in Brailes. Eleven new beekeepers attended the session and had a masterclass on how to not only extract honey but also how to prepare cut comb, which can be very popular at village shows.

A quick reminder that August is a busy month for Shipston Beekeepers – we’re attending 5 village shows (Cherington was on 01 August), we have our 2nd Monday meeting on 10th August, the next Apiary visit is on 16th August to Lucy’s apiary, and our summer BBQ is on Sat 22nd August! Details of 2nd Monday, apiary visit and the BBQ will be sent by email so keep and eye out!

I think busy may have been an understatement!
