Don’t you just love it when an event comes together. Last year we failed to arrange a BBQ, for all sorts of reasons, having had successful ones in 2021 and 2022. But the Committee was determined to have one this year, we chose a date relatively early on to give members time to reserve the day, and a time and place came together for the BBQ on Saturday 03 August.
Ray Pearce, Shipston’s Chair, apparently spends so much time in his local pub, the Red Lion in Horley, they had no hesitation in letting us use their BBQ and garden for our Summer BBQ. Caroline, Ray’s wife, volunteered to do the BBQ’ing and Julia Neal and Jacqui Rowe prepared some delicious salads and accompaniments.
Thus 27 members gathered for a very pleasant afternoon of burgers, sausages, salads and lots of bee talk. The sun shone and it was a great opportunity to catch up with members new and old. The pub venue was ideal with plenty of seating areas and, of course, a bar.
Some of us were there right until the closing time of 2000hrs; I think I can say that a great time was had by all. We (the Committee) will just ponder on whether more members night have made it if the event wasn’t in August, when families are on holiday, and perhaps if a weekday evening might be better.
But we will be back in 2025!
