This was the second apiary session following on from our Introduction to Beekeeping course in April.
The temperature on Saturday 13th May was, to be honest, a bit marginal at 10-11C but we were determined to let the second set of students see inside a colony.
As always the session started with getting into suits (apparently some actually fitted) and then a quick safety briefing from David Blower MB, primarily on stings.
Then lighting smokers and getting up close with the bees
Thanks for the session go to David Blower MB for organising the whole event, and to the helpers and demonstrators Mike Clarke (who does the signage and looks after the training apiary grounds and bee shed), Ray Pearce (Chair, Shipston Beekeepers), Graham Franklin, David Jones and Lucy Stevenson.
