We all hope for good weather but 34C & no clouds was a bit too much. It resulted in a less well attended show with dog & equestrian events both cancelled. The footfall was noticeably lower although I have not yet heard official figures.
Through Mike Clarke’s effort’s Shipston Beekeepers managed to get a location in the shade but it was still too warm for us to take the observation hive. With several new members entering the honey classes at the produce show (see below) we had a good turnout of members to help erect, man & dismantle the stand. There were at least 5 or 6 enquiries about taking up beekeeping from the public & interest in the general state of bees at present.
Our gross takings on the stall was £333.50, significantly lower than the last show. We sold 22 jars of runny honey, 12 set, 5 chunk and 10 pieces of cut comb. The runny honey from the branch apiary was on sale and there is a good stock left for forthcoming shows. 34% of our takings were through the iZettle card payment system.

Congratulations to Paul and Julia Neal whose ‘Frame Suitable for Extraction’ received the Ron Haycock Trophy for ‘Best in Show’ in the Honey Classes at the Brailes Show! In the single jar 1lb Run Honey Novice class, the Monday Evening Apiary Group entry achieved a first place Card ahead of five others in that class. Well done all those who entered the various classes. The standard was very high.
