The big news from May’s 2nd Monday meeting is that we have finally found our new home!
In previous blogs we have said that we quite like the Cherington Village Hall (the Cherington, Stourton, Sutton-under-Brailes Village Hall to give its full title!). Thanks to some persistence by David Blower MB we have now booked The Cart Shed room in the hall right through this year and into 2025. There is a cost to this, which of course we did not have with The George, but the Shipston Beekeepers Committee believe it is worth it for a really good venue.
The meeting on 13th May was our first in The Cart Shed and it is not as bad as it might sound……
It is a light, airy room ideal for talks, discussions, presentations and right next to the kitchen!
We didn’t have a theme for this Monday meeting but we went round the room to see what was affecting members and clearly the swarms season is upon us! A number of different swarming challenges were discussed and, as always with these discussions, most members came away with some useful things to try in managing their colonies.
We also, inevitably, heard some interesting anecdotes. Mike Clarke’s told us of his experience of collecting a swarm that had gone down a chimney and the bees were filling the lounge of the house (Mike felt obliged to help as he, ahem, recognised the bees). Or Paul Baines’ slug problem in his hives……..
Put it in your diaries now, Shipston 2nd Monday Meetings, Cherington Village Hall, 1900hrs for a 1930 start.
