Shipston Beekeepers 2nd Monday meeting – November 2023

13th November 2023 @ 19:30 - 21:30

I keep my bees at the bottom of my garden. I live on an estate, so there are a lot of neighbours very close. My biggest fear therefore is if the bees become too, ahem, defensive, start stinging the neighbours and I get asked to move them. I have a Plan B location (but don’t tell my mother-in-law, whose garden in Tysoe faces onto fields) but in reality I’m not sure how, if the demand happened in the middle of summer, I would move 2 hives, complete with 60,000 bees each and 3 supers!

Our speaker this month, Graham Franklin, had exactly the same problem this summer – but he had 7 colonies to move plus some nucs. I, for one, will be paying close attention to how he went about moving his colonies at short notice.

Please note that this month’s 2nd Monday is in Brailes village hall. The good news is that there is plenty of parking, the bad news is no beer – but we will have some light refreshments.
